It’s true.
Yesterday, my father came over to help me rake, clip trees, and pull gnarly bushes that had cropped up all over the garden.
There's me, surveying a pile of spindly tree parts that would not easily decompose for many months: “I think I’ll throw these in the compost bin.”
Father: “Do you ever use your compost pile?”
(Meaning, I think: Do I ever use the finished compost in my garden?)
Me, nodding to tree parts, “I use it to put things in.”
Father: “Why don’t you just get rid of it?”
Me: “But then where would I put things?”

Me too!!!!
Me to!!!!!!! We plan on using ours this year, though ;) Key word being 'plan'.
That is so funny. My husband often throws food scraps into the garden, skipping the compost step altogther. That doesn't work, by the way. We had a giant brussel sprout stalk and some oyster shells hanging out in the dirt patch until I, months later, picked them up and put them in the yard waste bin.
If you are selective about what you put in your compost, you will be successful; egg shells, coffee grounds, raw vege or fruit scraps. Don't put meat or dairy products in. Mike dug up some beautiful compost for our garden this spring. Don't overload it with too many leaves and twigs or it will take forever to do anything. You can do it Heather...I believe in you!
